Leaving QuickBooks Online
A firm's plan for leaving QuickBooks
Leave the way you'd close a month: one step at a time, each checked before the next. Nothing in QuickBooks changes until you cancel it.
The plan
Six steps, from one client to the whole practice
Try one client
Start a free trial, approve one client's QuickBooks Online company at Intuit, and let Mastro import it. Every month's profit and loss, balance sheet, and trial balance is compared with QuickBooks, to the cent.
Move the rest at once
Approve each client at Intuit. Mastro creates each one, connects it, and queues its import, and matches the bank rules files you drop in to clients by name.
Let the feeds pick up
Connect each bank and card account. Its feed starts where the import stopped, so no line comes in twice.
Bring the clients in
Invite each client's people to their portal. They connect their own banks through Plaid, answer your questions, and see each month's financials once you close it.
Move payroll
From QuickBooks Payroll, Gusto, ADP, or Paychex: the people and this year's payroll come over, and for employees in the seven states Mastro pays today, the next run is in Mastro. A client can also keep its provider, and Mastro posts what it runs.
Cancel QuickBooks
Once a client's books match and its feeds come in here, cancel its QuickBooks subscription. Its history is already in Mastro.
What doesn't change
The work your firm does stays its own
- Your firm still files1099s, payroll returns, sales tax, and income tax, on your own accounts, from what Mastro prepares.
- Money moves as it didFrom the client's own bank and Stripe account. Mastro records it.
- Your tax software staysWith Tax Prep, each account carries its line on the return, and the year-end package goes to the software you use.
Questions
Leaving, asked
What does leaving QuickBooks cost?
The move is free for every client. After the 30-day trial, each client costs what its modules do, from $39 a month for Bookkeeping.
What if a balance doesn't match?
Mastro shows the account, the month, and the difference to the cent, so you know exactly what to look at before you rely on the books.
Do I have to move every client at once?
No. Move one, or a few, and keep the rest in QuickBooks until you're ready. Mastro only reads the companies you connect.
Do my clients have to do anything?
Only what they'd do anyway: sign in to their portal, connect their banks, and answer your questions there.
Can I come from somewhere other than QuickBooks Online?
Yes. Bring a chart of accounts from QuickBooks Desktop, Xero, Zoho Books, Sage Intacct, or Sage 50, and opening balances from any trial balance.
